Mr. Allen

Advanced Choir, Standard Choir, Beginning Piano

Class overview

In high school, the ensemble courses (choir, instrumental music), instrumental courses, lessons, and dance are broken down into these assessed artistic processes: Creating; Performing; Responding; Connecting (dance only). By actively Creating, Performing,

and Responding, students will Connect to music.

For each artistic process, students will have a variety of assessment methods used for evaluation. Evaluations include:

● Active participation in formal and informal performances

● Formal and informal performance assessments, focusing on development of musical or performance technique

● Student created compositions, choreography (dance only) and improvisations

● Student critique of musical work, including self, peers, and others

The Beginning of the Year (BOY) assessment will not be placed in the gradebook but will be used by teachers to both monitor and support progress and growth throughout the year.

Each Marking Period Grade will be calculated using the following formula: Total Number of points earned Over Total Number of Points Available The number of assessments per artistic process will vary each marking period. For instance, one marking period may cover 2 assessments under Performing while another marking period may cover 4 assessments. This will alter the total number of points, but not the values for each assessment or assignment in each point.
