Nirmala Vishwakumar, played by Poorna Jagannathan, is Devi's mother. Nirmala never knew she was gonna have to raise a hard headed daughter by herself which put her under a lot of pressure. She wanted the best for Devi and herself which meant that she had to do a lot just to make both of them happy.

Kamala, played by Richa Moorjani, is Devi's cousin and Nalili's niece. She doesn't come in until season two but she is seen as this beautiful young woman who has such a life ahead of her. But in reality, she is so much more than that. She has the smarts, and looks, but she is a human with feelings and emotions.

Nirmala Vishwakumar, played by Ranjita Chakravarty, is Devi's grandmother and Mohans mother. She also comes in season two with Kamala. She is brought to live with Devi, Kamala, and Nalini. She might look like the nice grandmother but she looks for the best in her granddaughters and daughter-in-law.
