Professional Development
We believe that all educators should have access to engaging and relevant professional development.
Continuing our work in critical areas of learning and equity, professional development continues to be built around parallel structures to help facilitate consistency and alignment for adults in the district.
Intensive work is ongoing in the areas of project-based learning, instructional planning, sheltered instruction, educational technology, and content-specific pedagogy, all built upon a common foundation of learning design in the workshop.
Additional learning opportunities are available throughout the year to support teachers in planning with, and use of, new curricular resources being made available district-wide.
“Who dares to teach, must never cease to learn.”
-John Cotton Dana
Curricular Resource Support
A range of training and deeper dives is scheduled to support teachers in using curricular resources to design learning experiences with and for students.
After-Hours Workshops
Ongoing courses are available after hours on topics ranging from ELL and sheltered instruction to technology and early literacy.
Learning Labs
A Learning Lab is a structure for supporting groups of educators to grow their craft in collaboration with one another inside of the school day. During a learning lab, teachers come together to watch students in action, and then have a conversation about what they saw, wonderings, and next steps for instruction. The host teacher takes an open stance by saying, “Come on in. Here’s what I’m working on in my classroom. Here’s what I’m wondering about. Let’s have a conversation.” The host teacher is definitely not saying, “What’s happening in my classroom is the greatest thing you’ve ever seen.” The ultimate goal is about teacher learning and reflection (Margolis & Doring, 2012).
