Welcome to Our Counseling Center

Middle school is an exciting time for students to grow academically, emotionally, physically, and socially.  And sometimes students need a little help navigating through the wonderful and sometimes challenging middle school years.  That is where we come in.

Our role is to support student academic performance by providing social/emotional, academic, career related interventions and assisting families to overcome barriers to meet students basic needs..

Our goal is to work collaboratively with students, parents and staff to ensure students success and well being.

Our hope is to provide resources that are useful and engaging to both students and parents.

Parents are welcome to contact your student’s counselor at any time to discuss academic, social, or personal concerns about your student.  Click here for contact information.

Students may request an appointment with their counselor by clicking here or emailing their counselor directly

My student met with the counselor, does that mean something is wrong?

At Frontier Middle School, the counselor meets with students for a variety of reasons, including help with adjustment to school, transitions to high school, organizational skills, friendships, and other activities your student may be interested in. Don’t worry - if  something is wrong, the counselor will contact you.

My student needs a schedule change.  Who do I contact?

Students or parents may contact the student’s counselor if you would like to request a schedule change. Changes may be available if a student is missing a core class, in an incorrect music class, or if a period is missing or doubled. Schedules are not able to be changed for a different elective class if the class already started, to have a class with friends or teacher preference. We can look at changing an elective class for a future trimester.  Thank you for understanding!

My child is struggling academically, how do I find support for them

We will refer you to interventions that are available at Frontier, some of these may be before/after school or during lunch periods. Many teachers offer extra support during these times by appointment. If  your child is in a specialized program (IE: IEP, ELL, student in transition) often there are extra support services in place we can access. We will refer you to the appropriate person to ask.

My student is not getting along with a Teacher.  What should I do?

First, schedule an appointment to work with the teacher directly. The counselor will be happy to facilitate or participate in this meeting so we can approach any interventions with consistency.

My student is having a conflict with another student.  What should I do?

Conflicts are common in middle school. Typically, these issues are minor and easily resolved between the students or with help from counselors. However, if you think your student has experienced harassment, intimidation, or bullying (HIB), please report it immediately so our dean or administrator can take appropriate action. See the HIB Reporting Policy or more details. You can print a copy of the form from that page or request one from the school office.
