Hello! This will be my 6th year of teaching. I have an academic background in linguistics with a minor in Chinese. I love to travel whenever I can, both internationally around the states. This past year I took a leave of absence to travel, yet had to cut the trip short because of the state of the world earlier this year. I took advantage of that extra time to read the books I’ve been putting off and exploring new ones as well. I’m open to book recommendations!
When considering teaching as a career, I never thought that I would end up with middle schoolers, yet I’ve come to really appreciate this age group. They are still young, yet beginning to develop their opinions about the world around them, which is an exciting process to be able to witness.
This year in English Language Arts we will center our instruction around the workshop model which gives focus to the students developing a sense of agency in their learning process in regards to reading in writing. They will explore their identities as readers and writers across different types of text and writing forms. Remote learning will be a new experience to me since I was not with students last spring when the shift began, but I look forward to this opportunity to rise up to challenges and try new things. We will have each other for support!
