Hello Husky Families! We are off to a wonderful start in 5th grade and have already established a respectful learning environment in room 26. See below for an update on what we are working on and a glimpse at what is ahead.

*New Website: Please see the links that are located in the upper right hand corner of this page. They will direct you to various pages that may be helpful. Perhaps the most important being our classroom homework page and, under study links, access to the Engage NY math lesson videos. Please let me know if there is anything else that I can add that would be helpful.

*Math: We are nearly done with Module 1 (Place Value and Decimal Fractions). This is a challenging module and we will continue to practice the concepts throughout the year. Next up will be multi-digit multiplication, multiplication with decimals, and multi-digit division (both whole number and with decimals). I'm seeing a real need for students to practice their multiplication facts!!! We count on students coming to us knowing their facts (to 10 at least). Please make sure your child is working on the facts that he/she is having trouble with. This will be a very difficult module for those who do not know their facts.

*Social Studies: We just finished up our unit on geography, which included the state capitals. I hope your child has learned a study technique that works for them. We will be using the Weekly Studies newspapers as we explore the early history of what is today the United States. Thanks to those families who donated $7 towards the subscription! I hope we will find them worthwhile.

*Science: We will begin our first unit in science this week. The first unit of study will be on the human body. This chapter is comprised of 5 lessons and focus on the digestive, respiratory, circulatory, and excretory systems (excretory is the student favorite!!). We will begin our use of study guides for each quiz. The study guide will give the students the information they need to know for the quiz. At the end of the chapter, there will be a test on the information from all 5 lessons. Keep all of the study guides and notes for the chapter test!!
