Mrs. Manier's PE Place

Welcome to the Bear Valley Middle School 6th Grade PE Place!

Who is Mrs. Manier?

Personal Philosophy

I expect my students to strive toward individual excellence . Students are expected to create an environment for all students to succeed. I believe that students should have as much opportunity to experience a variety of activities and have enough hands on time to see improvement, gain confidence and get excited about pursuing activities on their own time. I love when a student begins a unit with ,”oh. No-not that…” to ending a unit with, “oh, no—we’re done already.

6th grade focus:

The focus of 6th grade Physical Education is to use the Physical Education Content Standards ( to prepare students for 7th and 8th grade. This involves teaching basic sports skills with a focus on cooperation and encouragement.

Personal History

I grew up in Garden Grove, CA. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from CSULB and earned my teaching credential from SDSU. My credential is in Physical Education and I also hold supplementary credentials in Mathematics, General Science and Biology. My first teaching position was at San Ysidro Middle School where I taught 6th. Grade Physical Education. During that time I completed a Masters Degree in Child Centered Education through USIU. The following year I was hired by Escondido Union School District to teach 6th grade Physical Education at Hidden Valley Middle School. I spent 16 years at Hidden Valley and in addition to teaching physical education I also taught chorus, science and mathematics. I was the ASB advisor and implemented the WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) program which was established to create a safe environment for 6th graders as they entered middle school. In 2003 I became part of the leadership team that opened Bear Valley Middle School. In 2012 I received the greatest honor of my teaching career. I was selected to represent the Escondido Union School District as the Middle School Teacher of the Year. This award was really a representation of all of the amazing professionals that I have had the honor of working with throughout my career. I would be nothing without them!

On a personal note, I have been married 30 years to Steve Manier who teaches Adapted Physical Education in Valley Center. We live in Valley Center . We love to travel and hang out with our two adorable dogs
