The Story of Islam

There is One God. There is none worthy of worship except God. God explains mankind’s purpose in life... ‘And I did not create Jinn and Humankind except to worship Me... [Qur’an 51:56-58]. That’s our primary purpose. God sent Messengers to the Earth to teach mankind the straight path. The most famous Messengers were Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Mohammad (peace be upon them all). Their duties were to deliver the word of God to the people. Each messenger corrected the path of those who, after the previous messenger, had gone astray. But it is not the messengers that gives guidance to the people. Messengers give the message, guidance comes from God.

Islam is the most recent of the Abrahamic faiths. It acknowledges all the messengers of the Torah, Psalms and Bible as well as confirming the central message – to worship the One God none else. Its line of prophets ends with Mohammad (peace be upon him), a descendent of Abraham from Ishmael (Abraham’s first son), whose life in Arabia between 570 and 632 AD transformed the region. A summarised Prophethood family tree can be seen here. Followers of Islam are called Muslims. The underlying scriptures of Islam are the Qur’an and the Hadith. The Qur’an is the literal word of God (Allah) and the Hadith are a collection of verified sayings about the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as narrated by his Companions.
