Varsity Assistant
Coach Mayne is a former collegiate standout who brings leadership, energy, and a commitment to player development at every stop in his coaching journey. A 2006 graduate of UMass Lowell, Mayne enjoyed a decorated four-year playing career with the River Hawks, serving as a three-year captain. He was a key contributor during the winningest four-year stretch in program history, helping lead the team to two consecutive NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearances and a Sweet Sixteen berth.
After graduating with his bachelor’s degree, Mayne joined the UMass Lowell coaching staff as an assistant coach from 2007 to 2009. His responsibilities were wide-ranging and vital to the program’s continued success. He was heavily involved in recruiting prospective student-athletes, coordinating the video exchange program with fellow Northeast-10 Conference programs, and serving as camp director for the team’s annual summer basketball camp. In addition, he played a major role in player development and the preparation of scouting reports, while also overseeing the academic progress and support of student-athletes within the program.
In 2009, Mayne transitioned to high school coaching, joining the staff at Niles North High School, where he coached from 2009 to 2010. His focus on skill development, team culture, and academic accountability continued to shape young athletes during his time there.
In 2011, Mayne returned to his roots as a member of the Evanston Township High School boys basketball coaching staff, where he’s worn many different hats, from powerhouse aau coach, feeder board member, head sophomore coach, summer camp director and assistant varsity coach as the “defensive coordinator”.
Coach Mayne’s career reflects a deep love for the game and a strong belief in the power of basketball to teach life lessons, develop character, and build community. Mayne credits the success of the program over the last decade as a byproduct of a culture that has been built on brotherhood. That brotherhood starts with the coaching staff and continues with a strong collection of current and former players who are pros.
