Having recently completed his fifteenth season at Evanston Township High School, Head Coach Mike Ellis has led the Wildkits to three 30-win seasons and twelve 20-win seasons, ten Regional Championships, five Sectional Championships and three Super-Sectional Championships. This past season, he led the team to a State 3rd Place finish and 31-6 record. Coach Ellis led the first ever back-to-back IHSA State Finals appearances in school history, guiding the ETHS Boys Basketball program to a State Runner-Up finish in 2019 and a State 3rd Place finish in 2018. His current record at Evanston Township High School stands at: 342-123.
In his 22-year coaching career, Coach Ellis has compiled team accomplishments of: (3) State Runner-Ups 2006, 2010 and 2019, (2) State 3rd Place Finishes 2018 and 2025, (8) Sectional Championships, (16) Regional Championships and (14) Conference titles. Coach Ellis has been named IBCA Coach of the Year 14 times. In 2024, Coach Ellis was inducted into the state’s Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. He is a combined 498-178 (.737) as a high school head coach.
While at Peoria Richwoods High School, Coach Ellis became the school's all-time winning percentage leader at 74% with a record of 156-55. Coach Ellis earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Iowa and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Illinois State University.
