Please use MINGA and encourage your students, it is also the way for students to use it. Currently all students have to sign in for lunch everyday and having MINGA or their physical ID is 10 times faster to scan than typing in their ID# or asking our kitchen staff to look it up.

Classroom Cleanup / Access:
Please remember that no one will be on campus during the December / January Break. Please do not come to campus. Make sure you clean up after yourselves and do not leave any food in your fridge or out in your classrooms.
Bathrooms:

Thank you Comets!
You are Stellar
Howdy Comets,
We are entering into the home stretch and we want to thank you and our amazing teammates for the work you do on a daily basis. Great Job All!
Bathroom:
Due to some technical issues we have had to close the 500 bathrooms for the rest of the semester. Hopefully we will be back up and running in second semester.
For now: 1000 Bathroom’s will be open at break, lunch and during the period.
We will still continue to shut bathrooms first and last 10 minutes of class and we are working diligently to get the 500 bathroom fixed.
Cleaning & Custodial Support:
We are working to clean up and winterize the whole campus and spending a great deal of time prepping for the winter vacation coming up soon. We will prioritize trash and bathrooms but will be spending time outside of your rooms on some of the big projects we are working on.
Custodial team appreciates your support on this. Go Team Comet Custodial!
Student Support:
Tues - Fri Homework Club continues up until finals. Students are encouraged to prepare for their finals and get the support of teacher tutors and student tutors.
Wellness Center for Wellness Breaks, utilize and support students who need it with a calming space in the classroom or the wellness center. Please make sure not to send multiple students at the same time and help staff by knowing which students need wellness and which students need the restroom.

Howdy Comets,
Welcome back from Thanksgiving and we hope that you are rested and ready for the coming weeks.
We will have the next three weeks to determine the grades for this Semester and we want to support all of our Comets on getting to the end of the Semester.
Please talk with your students about your expectations for work and assignments especially leading up to your finals. It helps assuage anxiety and gives students a concrete plan.
Saturday Academy:
Saturday Academy will be coming up this week and next to prepare students for finals.
Teacher sign up: LIVE LINK
If you’re interested in joining on Dec. 7 or Dec. 14 please sign up.
Thank you to all of you that are already signed up and we look forward to helping push as many students over the finish line as possible.
Bathrooms & Passing Period:
1000 Bathrooms are open during:
2nd Per Passing
Break
4th Per Passing
Lunch
6th Per Passing
500 Restrooms are open during the period but open after the first 10 minutes and close before the last 10 minutes.
Attendance Review Conferences and Home Visits:
Thank you to all of you that submitted CARE Referrals, New Hope, City of San Jose, STARS and Admin Team have been conducting home visits and individual ARC conferences as well as group ARC conferences for students who are chronically absent.
Adopt a Family:

Thank you Comets, you are Stellar!
Howdy Comets,
Holiday Approaching:
As we approach Thanksgiving Break please remember to take all of your things with you at the end of this week. Campus will not be accessible or open next week.
That includes your refrigerators and food supplies as well as papers, and documents you may want with you during your holiday break.
We wish you all the most splendid Thanksgiving for you and your families.
Leaks and Work Orders:
If you see a leak or any issues, plumbing, electrical, HVAC etc. Please put in a ticket and let Boostani and Mrs. Godoy know. They can help troubleshoot but ultimately our friends from the District will be the ones fixing the issues and the faster they know about it the quicker they can get it fixed.
Passing Period Restrooms:
With the help of the STARS team (Thanks SuperSTARS!) we have modified passing period bathrooms to include the 1000 bathrooms instead of the often crowded 500 restrooms.
1000 Bathrooms are open during:
2nd Per Passing
Break
4th Per Passing
Lunch
6th Per Passing
500 Restrooms are open during the period but open after the first 10 minutes and close before the last 10 minutes.
That way there is more access to restrooms throughout campus throughout the day and students have less restrictions.
The schedule is posted on all of the bathroom doors and it has been helpful in supporting students getting to class on time and not being stuck in the restroom.

Please remember to only release one student at a time to use the restroom and if a student is out for too long feel free to ask for support from any of the STARS Safety Team.
Please no students out the first and last 10 minutes of class. There are certainly exceptions to this but as a general rule it helps us tremendously.

Supervision and Safety Map
We have the larger safety team made up of certificated staff and classified staff that comes out to support at lunch and break. If you’re interested in joining the team please let me know and we can update the map to add you in. All safety team members go to training to support campus supervision once a year and we will be sending out that information soon with this years training times.
Attendance:
Please remember that as our classes are very full right now we need the most accurate attendance possible so that we can determine which students are at school and which are not.
The registration team is working hard to remove students that move to other schools and can be verified. For students that haven’t communicated and can’t be verified each student has to have documented contacts to remind them to be in school before we can drop them from our rosters. We are working diligently to make that happen.
Attendance Team:
Our incredible Attendance team can be contacted by email preferrably or phone. Ms. Jerlene and Ms. Itzel handle over 500 phone calls a day on average from parents and community members and they receive your records to share with our team. Please reach out to them or Boostani if you have any questions

Support Staff: NHFY (NEW HOPE FOR YOUTH)
We will be sharing our new people and support staff from New Hope For Youth. Ben and Trinity will be supporting James Lick and will be helping doing outreach to homes and families of our community. You will see them out at break and lunch and on campus most days from 9:00am - 4:00pm. Introduce yourselves and say hi, they’re wonderful.
Hi James Lick Family,
Welcome back officially from summer break! As we prepare for the new school year, please sign up for the following opportunities if you are able and willing to participate and view the important documents and dates for the beginning of the year:
Please sign up here if you’d like to be a part of this school year’s Extended Safety Team (supervision during break and/or lunch). I will share this year’s supervision map for all to view once I finalize team members.
Saturday Academy Interest Form
We will be having our first semester emergency safety drills on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. We will be on an activity schedule that day. Your emergency bags were picked up over summer to be updated and will be delivered to your classrooms this week.
We will still be following our policy of no bathroom use the first 10 minutes and last 10 minutes of class. You will all be receiving new bathroom passes. Please view our bathroom schedule here and the recommended bathroom log here to document when students are using the restroom and/or leaving your classroom. .
Please view last year’s CSSP Plan here. I’ll be in touch soon about dates to discuss our progress and reminder of roles.
Hi everyone!
I hope summer has been filled with rest, relaxation, and fun and that you enjoy these next couple of final weeks! I am so excited for the 24-25 school year with you all. As we prepare for the new academic year, I’d love to hear from you all on the ways you’d like to get connected with the Safety, Wellness, and Attendance team.
Please sign up here if you’d like to be a part of this school year’s Extended Safety Team (supervision during break and/or lunch).
Please stay tuned next week as I will release the Saturday Academy dates for interested teachers to sign up.
Reach out with any ideas or efforts you have in mind for the new year as I finalize planning these next couple of weeks.
