About Mike Waer

Mike Waer has served as the Executive Director of Operations for the Estacada School District since April 2019.

Mike spent most of his childhood in Alaska, where his joy for adventure and the outdoors started. He started his college career in a small university in North Dakota, where he played football and studied business. Mike moved to Oregon in 2005 to be closer to his family and to finish his studies at Portland State University. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health and Health Studies in 2007.

Mike's career path has been focused on strengthening his community through his work. He started his career at the Boys & Girls Club of the Portland Metro Area, as a Gym Supervisor; then moved on to the nonprofit sector, to serve low-income children and families through a Federal Program called Head Start. Before coming to Estacada, Mike was the Operations Director of Clackamas County Children's Commission. A Head Start program serving over 700 families in Clackamas County.

Mike has become a leader in school safety and emergency preparedness, through his career. He believes in being prepared for emergencies is a critical piece to being ready to respond to emergency situations; he takes a proactive approach in supporting the District's emergency preparedness initiatives. In October 2019, Mike and District Leaders coordinated the first off-site reunification drill with the River Mill and Clackamas River Elementary schools.
