History of the United States and New York State I
is a chronological study of United States history from before the arrival of Columbus in 1492 through the Civil War ending in 1865.
Wherever possible, connections between historic and current events will be explored.
In 8th grade the study will continue through present day.

- A Nation Divided & Civil War- May/June
Grading Policy:
80% Assessments (graded work)- includes writing assignments, quizzes, tests, projects
These assignments need to be completed independently. Copying work from others is not allowed, and consequences include detention to redo the assignment, as well as receiving limited or no credit.
15% Homework- graded for complete effort, can take the form of readings, worksheets, as well as online tools such as EdPuzzle, Flocabulary, & iCivics.
Homework will be given 2-4x/week, and should not take more than 20 minutes. If it does, please stop and get a guardian signature to receive full credit.
5% Responsibility- includes participation, preparedness, attendance
Student's and teacher's input are both factored into this grade.
Absences- Students are expected to visit class websites before checking in with teachers to make up missed work immediately upon their return.
Students are encouraged to stay after school with a teacher on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for support in completing homework assignments, as well as study sessions.
