It's that time again to clear your mind for the new year. For you, it might begin with writing your New Year's resolution or simply taking a moment to pause and think about where you are. However, resetting your mind and space is more than just one action—it’s an ongoing process that can greatly improve your well-being, creativity, and productivity.
Mental clutter can build up just like physical clutter. Throughout the year, we gather worries, to-do lists, distractions, and negative thoughts that weigh us down. Taking time to reset your mind is a gift you give yourself. Activities like meditation, journaling, or even a long walk outside can help clear your thoughts and create space for new ideas. Regularly unplugging from technology, setting boundaries on your time, and practicing mindfulness can keep your mind fresh and focused on what really matters.
Our surroundings have a strong impact on our mood and productivity. A cluttered or chaotic space can make it hard to think clearly or feel motivated. Start by decluttering your physical space—donate items you no longer need, organize your workspace, and create a system that supports your daily routines. Think about making small changes, like adding plants, rearranging furniture, or introducing calming scents, to create a space that feels inspiring and comfortable. For a more detailed guide on cleaning your room, I have an issue just for that. You can find it in the October Morgan Insider.
A true reset isn’t a one-time event but a continuous commitment to yourself. Set regular times throughout the year to reassess your goals, tidy your space, and check in with your mental health. Celebrate your progress, no matter how small, and remember that each reset is a chance to grow and move forward.

The Lord of the Rings is one of the most popular trilogies in the world, with over 150 million copies sold. The movies have won numerous awards, for example, The Fellowship of the Ring, which has won over four Oscars. This story's message emphasizes the importance of never giving up, even when things get tough, and provides examples of genuine friendship. Please continue reading to enjoy a page full of facts about one of my favorite movie sagas and one of the best-written books in the fantasy genre.
The L.O.T.R. Series was filmed in New Zealand, where the mountains, hill tops, and trees brought J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth to life. It took Peter Jackson and his crew four years to visit all the locations in New Zealand, but they persevered through the years and finally completed the trilogy in 2003. (Fun Trivia)
In fact, today you can visit the Hobbiton Movie Set, featuring a journey past the colourful Hobbit Hole doors that scatter the hillsides, a glimpse of the interior of a humble Hobbit’s home, and finally a stop at the Green-Dragon Inn. (100% Pure New Zealand)
“J.R.R. Tolkien quoted that the real hero of The Lord of the Rings was Samwise Gamgee, and that Sam was inspired by the batmen he knew during his service in the First World War. Batmen were soldiers in the British army who not only fought, but were also assigned to a commissioned officer as his personal servant.
In a letter to Cotton Minchin in 1956, Tolkien wrote, “My ‘Samwise’ is indeed (as you note) largely a reflection of the English soldier—grafted on the village-boys of early days, the memory of the privates and my batmen that I knew in the 1914 War, and recognized as so far superior to myself.”
Compare now The Batman to batmen. The first is the quintessential superhero. He is a tortured genius, an outsider, a man of mystery. The superhero has a special destiny, a solitary battle against the forces of evil. He endures an inner battle that reflects the battles he endures in the outer world. He is an orphan, alone in the world. Batman is a creature of the night, a conundrum, a man with a mask, a dweller in caverns—an agonized introvert—a man who does not fear the underworld or the monsters that lurk within.” (The Imaginative Conservative)
“When Andy Serkis was cast as Gollum, his voice was initially all the production wanted. Serkis’ voice was inspired by his cat's furball noises for the iconic cough of Gollum. The raspy, gargling voice proved very difficult on Serkis' vocals, so he concocted a mixture of hot honey, ginger, lemon, and water to ease his throat, now named Gollum Juice.” (Collider)
“The production quickly realized they needed more from Serkis, and soon he was one of the many CGI characters. Early in production, Serkis wore white pajamas with padding so he could crawl over rocks on all fours. This VFX team had to film Serkis a second time in a motion capture suit and fully replace his performance. As the VFX techniques improved through production, so did the motion capture, and LOTR became the first production in history to film live-action actors and motion-capture actors simultaneously”. (Collider)
“In Fellowship, we are introduced to Boromir (Sean Bean). Once the Fellowship is formed, the nine embark on their perilous journey to Mount Doom, which soon finds them traveling over the Misty Mountains. For the production to make it up to shoot, helicopters had to transport the cast and crew up an actual mountain, much to the dismay of Bean. After taking the first flight up, Bean was noticeably shaken and refused to take another ride up the mountain. To reach the remote location, Bean took a ski lift and hiked the remaining miles, wearing full Boromir makeup and costume, to arrive at the filming location. Meanwhile, the rest of the giggling cast could see Bean hiking from their helicopter seats.” (Collider)
“Sam’s pony Bill was, in Fellowship’s Midgewater Marshes scene, actually a “panto pony,” due to the difficulty of working with a live animal in a swamp. Not sure what a “panto pony” is? Well, that’s a fancy way of saying Bill was a pony suit with one person in the front half and one person in the back. It wasn’t exactly easy to work with, either. “We had a terrible struggle to get the pony to walk through the marshes because the performers were completely blind, buried in this costume and up to their waists in a real swamp,” shared Jackson. “Bill would try to walk and then would start to wobble, and everyone would have to rush in and catch him before he fell over! There was one hilarious moment where the front legs moved without the back legs, and Bill got stretched into a sort of long sausage dog!" (Mental Floss)

This year, the Dance Force featured a large roster, with 49 dancers. They performed at two 8th-grade boys' basketball halftimes, the winter spirit assembly, and the annual dance competition.
The dancers learned two routines: "Blow" by Kesha and "Oh" by Ciara. This year, the dance competition was hosted by Morgan, where our team earned the Total Domination title, 2nd place in the People's Choice award, the Leadership award, and the Best Athleticism award.
The dancers enjoyed an outstanding season. Thank you to everyone who came and supported the team at their performances.

Ever feel stuck, bored, or like you should be getting more done? You’re not alone—I’ve been there too. Here’s a list of simple, practical ideas to help you feel more energized, focused, and productive in your everyday life.
These can really help with your mental health, and give you a chance to do something outside of a screen.
If you schedule your days ahead of time, you can feel less stressed out when it comes to knowing you're doing that day.
If you tackle urgent and important tasks first, you don’t have to worry about doing those things later, and can reward yourself.
Decide what you want to be able to accomplish, and break it into smaller and achievable steps.
It is very important to get enough sleep. Your immune system and physical health to getting enough sleep so that you are energized for the next day.
You are actually more likely to get less stuff done when you are trying to do more than one thing, so try to minimize the number of things you are doing.

It's a new year, and it comes with a ton of changes, fun facts, and celebrations. Let’s dive into what makes the new year special.
2026 will be the first year in America when we will not be producing the penny. Because penny inflation had caused a single penny to be worth 2 cents, we officially stopped printing pennies in November of last year, making 2026 the first year in American history without this denomination of coin. But in celebration of the penny, the last five pennies were marked with a special omega (𝝮) symbol, making them an instant collectors' item. Though Abraham is no longer on a coin, it's my two, no, my five sense that we’ll still remember him through the five-dollar bill.
America was founded with the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Now, 2026 marks America's 250th birthday, or a semiquincentennial. Since then, America has expanded to over 3 times its original size, taken Britain's title of biggest military, participated in the 2 world wars, and become one of the world's main powers. Make sure you go to a fireworks show, because this year is sure to bring out everything they've got.
In November of 2026, Voyager 1, an American-made spacecraft from almost 50 years ago, is going to pass its biggest milestone yet. Powered by heat from a piece of radioactive material, Voyager 1 is set to pass a light day around November 13th or 15th, after traveling at over 100 times the speed of sound. The spacecraft is estimated to run out of power in the late 2030s, but the spacecraft itself will continue to travel indefinitely into depths that no other spacecraft will reach in our lifetimes.
In 2026, NASA is set to launch Artemis 2, a manned spacecraft to fly by the moon. This mission will be the first spacecraft to carry humans to the moon in over 50 years. The main purpose of this is to test modern space equipment to confirm the launch of later missions, as well as to test the brains and psychology of the astronauts during long space travel. If all goes well, NASA will be set to launch Artemis 3, aiming to land humans on the moon again sometime in late 2026 to early 2028.
2026’s color of the year is Cloud Dancer, a shade of white.
2026’s Chinese Lunar New Year will bring the year of the horse.
2026 will hold the 60th Super Bowl and the 25th Winter Olympics.
The FIFA World Cup will be hosted by the US, featuring 48 countries for the first time.
The sequel to the Super Mario movie, titled Super Mario: Galaxy, and Toy Story 5 will be making an appearance (though Disney has not yet confirmed if it will be the final movie in the franchise.)
Marvel will be making a new Spider-Man film, as well as the Avengers: Doomsday (which hopefully will bring up Marvel's popularity from post-Endgame.)
Brawl Stars is by far and away one of the most downloaded mobile games ever. Unfortunately, Brawl Stars has seen a massive decline in players over the last year. I am going to walk you through the rise and fall of Brawl Stars and what they could do to improve their game.
The huge Brawl Stars peak began in April and May of 2024, when they released the Godzilla collab. Players swarmed to Brawl Stars when this collaboration was released. Clash Royale was really popular at the time, but players started switching to Brawl Stars, which then had the largest increase in player count they have ever seen. Brawl Stars seemed to be doing everything right. It was BOOMING on social media, players were LOVING the updates and everything, and then came the absolute BEST collab in the history of Brawl Stars: The SpongeBob collab. This only made Brawl Stars climb even HIGHER in player count. The skins were awesome, everybody loved the new game modes, and everything was good.
Then, Brawl Stars made the biggest mistake ever.
Before I tell you what abomination Brawl Stars did that killed their game, I need to tell you what masteries were. Masteries were a way to master a brawler and get their title. And everybody LOVED masteries.
But unfortunately, Brawl Stars made a huge mistake of REMOVING MASTERIES. When they removed masteries, they replaced them with records. Records were a much harder way to progress and master a brawler. The backlash was INSANE. A whole lotta people quit the game because of this change. And of course, they had to do this when their player count was ALREADY dropping because of the absolutely HORRIBLE collab they did (The Toy Story collab) that released a temporary brawler, Buzz Lightyear.
The insane player drop Brawl Stars had during this collab was crazy. The problem was that Buzz Lightyear was insanely overpowered and needed absolutely no skill to use. Then began the Buzz Lightyear apocalypse. EVERYBODY was using Buzz Lightyear, so people trying to push other brawlers were cooked, because SuperCell made him way too overpowered. This brawler was basically a three-in-one deal, having 3 different modes to choose from before a match. These modes all had their own attacks, supers, and unique abilities. You could choose from the laser mode, which dealt 2200 on hit. This mode’s super had buzz fire his lasers in a cone-shaped pattern, firing around 4 or 5 lasers, dealing 1000 damage each. Next was the saber mode, acting like a tank with almost 9000 health and a fast movement speed. Buzz would swing a saber that dealt around 2400 damage, but had a short attack range. And finally was his super. His super was a high-speed jump where he jumped really high, then dashed down to his target. The wing mode, which turned Buzz into a damage dealer and an assassin in one. He would fire two bullets that had a range of about 3-4 tiles. These bullets would deal 1000 damage each at max distance. But close up, these bullets dealt 2000 damage each and shot quickly. So that means if you hit all six shots up close with his 3 ammo, you would deal around 12000 damage, which is enough to defeat almost any brawler in the game. This mode’s super had Buzz fly a quick, short distance while dropping tiny bombs on the ground that dealt around 700 damage each. As you can probably tell, this brawler was made WAY TOO OVERPOWERED and stayed WAY TOO LONG.
I hope you enjoyed this walkthrough of the rise and fall of one of the most popular mobile games ever.

Though you may not know it, there are several small changes that you can make to your daily lifestyle that could help your family save money. The money that your family saves from making these changes could pay for something fun, like concert tickets or a new TV.
As an added bonus, many of these small changes could also have a positive impact on our local environment!
Here are five changes we can all make that could help us save money, and maybe help our environment too.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the average American uses 80-100 gallons of water per day. That is just for basic needs, like bathing, flushing, washing hands, and drinking. During the spring and summer months, the number increases because many of us use more water to water lawns and gardens, fill swimming pools, play on slip'n slides, etc.
Take shorter showers
Turn off the water when brushing your teeth or washing your face
Collect rainwater runoff from gutters into barrels/containers
Use leftover water for plants or animals
Only run the dishwasher and washing machine for full loads
Your water use is not free. Your family pays for every gallon of water that is used in your home, or for the electricity to pump it, so cutting back on water consumption will not only positively impact the environment, but it can also help your family save money.
Monthly bills for energy use can really add up. According to KIRO 7 News, electricity costs rose over 12% in Washington from May 2024 to May 2025. By making a few changes around the house, you can help your family save money on electricity.
Most people think that if electronics are turned off they do not use any energy, but scientists have proven that is not true. Wired reports that even when turned off, appliances and electronics that are plugged in are still sucking "vampire energy". In order to stop wasting power, make sure electronics are unplugged when you aren't using them.
Unplug rarely used electronics
Plug electronics into power strips and switch the power strips off when you aren’t using them
Unplug cell phones/Chromebooks/tablets/etc. once they reach 100% charged
Open blinds and curtains during the day
Turn off the lights when you leave a room
Hang laundry to dry (on a rack indoors, or on a clothesline outside during warmer weather)
Wash your laundry in cold water
Turn the heat down when you're not at home
It makes no sense to pay for energy you aren't even using, and cutting back could also benefit the environment.
There are many reasons to stop using single-use, “throw-away” plastics, but two very important reasons are 1) they are largely a waste of money, and 2) they contribute to litter all over Ellensburg.
Carry a reusable water bottle with you, everywhere, every day
Use reusable bags, boxes, or baskets for groceries and shopping (leave them in the car)
Pack your lunch/breakfast/sports snacks in reusable containers instead of using expensive Ziploc baggies and plastic wrap
Buy powdered Gatorade/Powerade mix instead of single-use bottles
By not paying for single-use plastics, you'll be keeping litter out of landfills and off the streets, too!
According to Reader's Digest, there are several items that people should always buy used, including bicycles, sporting goods, books, exercise equipment, and furniture. Buying used is a great way to stretch your dollar and save your family money.
Also, when you buy used items from other people (this excludes stores), you don’t have to pay sales tax, which adds approximately 10 cents to every dollar spent!
Buy from friends or family (send a group text or email letting them know what you're looking for)
Check online selling sites like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or Varagesale
Stop at Garage/Yard Sales when you see signs
Visit stores that specialize in selling used goods, like Goodwill, Value Village, Plato's Closet, and Habitat for Humanity
Shop from online websites that specialize in used goods, like eBay, Poshmark, and Depop
Buying used items will save your family money, and sometimes you can find unique things that aren’t sold new in stores, like vintage clothes, old records, and cool collectibles.
Sometimes we have items that we no longer need or want. These items may be outgrown, or they could be something that your family just no longer uses. Most people just pile all this stuff up until they reach the breaking point, then it all gets loaded up and donated to Goodwill.
But, this is an opportunity to make some money! If something is unneeded, you could try to sell it. Ask your parents or guardians to help you find the selling methods that would work best for your family.
Sell nice, like new clothes and shoes to a used clothing store, like Plato's Closet, Buffalo Exchange, or Crossroads Trading, or on a selling website like Poshmark or Depop
List bicycles, furniture, sporting goods, farm equipment, horse tack, etc., on selling sites like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or Varagesale
Organize a Garage/Yard Sale for all of your smaller items, including books, games, and toys (late spring, summer, and early fall would be the best times)
Repurpose items into fun DIYs or gifts for friends and family (here are some ideas from Country Living)
Cut stained or ruined clothes into cleaning rags (and save money on paper towels!)
By trying your best to make small changes like these, your family will most likely save money, and you might make a positive impact on the environment along the way.
