Terminating Decimals

  • We can use long division to calculate the decimal representation of a fraction.

  • For example, ⅞ is equal to 7 ÷ 8.

  • A terminating decimal is a decimal that ends.

  • 0.875 is a terminating decimal.

Repeating Decimals

  • We can use long division to calculate the decimal representation of a fraction.

  • For example, 7/12 is equal to 7 ÷ 12.

  • A repeating decimal is a decimal with numbers or groups of numbers that repeat indefinitely.

  • 0.5833333... is a repeating decimal.
