This project proposes programming a sound level meter using the micro:bit board to support a primary school student with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who is hypersensitive to noise. This device aims to help the student better manage sound levels. in the environment, contributing to their emotional well-being and academic performance.
Students with ASD often have a high sensory sensitivity, especially in school environments where noise can be unpredictable and stressful. This sensitivity can lead to anxiety, loss of concentration and, in some cases, emotional breakdown. These students are able to manage external stimuli autonomously and easily.
The main objective is to design and implement a device that continuously monitors the level of ambient sound. The student must wear sound-cancelling headphones. This system will allow the student to anticipate and manage stressful situations more efficiently.
This project is aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are detailed in full and how the proposal is linked:
SDG 3 because it contributes to improving the emotional well-being of students with ASD, avoiding stress and emotional crises caused by hypersensitivity to noise. It provides a tool to reduce exposure to stimuli that can negatively affect their mental and emotional health.
SDG 4 because it allows students to participate fully in the regular classroom, offering a simple and effective adaptation that ensures access to quality education without discrimination. It promotes a more inclusive school in which everyone has the same opportunities to learn.
SDG 10 because it helps reduce inequality within the classroom, offering students a tool that allows them to adapt to their environment and have the same opportunities as their peers. This initiative is a step towards equity and inclusion in the educational system.
Through this initiative, various dimensions of the SDGs are addressed, promoting well-being, inclusion and equity in the educational field. This proposal not only addresses a specific need, but also serves as a model for moving towards a more inclusive, sustainable and conscious society.
