adult education and literacy distance learning

Many adults in Texas cannot take advantage of adult education services for a variety of reasons:

  • the learning center is too far away
  • transportation is not available
  • there is no childcare
  • work schedules conflict with class times
  • a student has a physical disability

Other adult education students use distance learning to accelerate or intensify face-to-face instruction. These students enroll in a distance learning ESL and HSE classes while they are taking a regular class.

We now offer instruction to students English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE), and Adult Secondary Education (ASE) using our approved Distance Learning Curriculum. In order to enroll in distance learning for ESL, ABE, and ASE, you are required to attend a Distance Learning Pathway orientation at Region 9 ESC Adult Education and Literacy. After students attend one of the orientations and meet with the Distance Learning Lead Instructor, the student will be provided with a username and password to the approved program for their level.
