Flipgrid
Video Discussion Tool
Flipgrid is a website that allows teachers to create "grids" to facilitate video discussions. Each grid is like a message board where teachers can pose questions, called "topics," and their students can post video responses that appear in a tiled grid display.
Review Comments from Region 16 Vetting :
We recommend not using the "#GridPals" feature of this site. This allows teachers to connect their classrooms with other teachers and their classrooms around the world. You must check district's policy and get approval on the use of this feature for both teachers and students.
Individual Grid Owners represent they have legal authority to bind the entire district to Flipgrid's terms. Therefore, please get approval from your district before signing up to use this product!
Individual Grid Owners must be aware of parental permissions for video, picture, and audio posting. Must know which students have permission to have images and videos.
Permissions are set by individual Grid Owners. Please make sure you utilize the "school email" or "school ID" grid and turn off the function for students to be able to download and share their videos.
If you use the "PLC/public grid" you must password protect it. Once the assignment is complete, please change the password so students can't access their classmate's videos at home which can become a FERPA issue.
When you set up a topic, turn on "video moderation" so you can approve videos before the class can see them.
After the assignment is complete, please make sure you make the topic "hidden" so that way students can't go back in and access their video and other student videos from home as this can become a FERPA issue.
