Inclusion vs Least Restrictive Environment 

Inclusion is for all students!  It is making sure that ALL students have equal opportunity to participate in ALL aspects of the school experience.  Schools often confuse the term "inclusion" with the federally required term "least restrictive environment". In the video (link below), Cheryl Jorgensen compares the two and explains how schools should view the idea of inclusive education.  

Inclusion: Common Concerns for General Educators 

General educators are often at a loss on how to best support students in the general education setting that require additional supports or even alternate expectations through their IEPS.  In this video, Cheryl Jorgenson addresses some of the common concerns of general educators.

SPRING RLA TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

Research tells us that 95% of children CAN learn to read if provided with instruction  to meet their individual needs [Young, 2012 [Updated 2017]; (Lyons 1998, NRP 2000) ].   Whether you currently consider yourself a "general educator" or a "special educator", the content of the sessions above will prove helpful for all students.  These training sessions are a collaborative effort from Region 14 staff to improve reading and writing performance for ALL students whether served in general education or special education or a combination of the two.
