About Me
Welcome to my teacher website! I am so happy to be a part of the Hillrise and Arbor View communities and am looking forward to a wonderful year.
This year marks my 16th year in the Elkhorn Public Schools. I began my career teaching a 4th and 5th-grade multigrade classroom in Millard Public Schools, where I discovered my passion for working with gifted children. This led me to pursue a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an endorsement in Gifted Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
After a few years off to stay home with my four children, I returned to education as a Gifted Coordinator in Millard. I helped develop the district's elementary math curriculum and identification process for high-ability students, which sparked my deep interest in all areas of gifted education, from identification to curriculum design. Here in Elkhorn, I've had the privilege of working with our district's HALE team to refine our program identification and update our ELA curricula. I also serve as the coordinator for the STEAM and Math Pentathlon clubs at Hillrise and Arbor View Elementary.
In addition to my work in Elkhorn, I am a gifted education consultant. Through my 15 years of work at the Gifted Development Center, I gained invaluable clinical experience in assessing and identifying gifted children, including those who are twice-exceptional and visual-spatial learners. This work profoundly enhances my understanding of the intellectual, social, and emotional needs of gifted students.
A Glimpse into My Life
Outside of school, my family is my greatest joy. I am a proud parent of four adult children and a grandparent to three grandsons and a granddaughter. I love to travel, and I especially enjoy hosting "KIKI Camp" for my grandkids. I'm also an avid musician, playing the piano and ukulele, and listening to a wide range of music, from the Grateful Dead to Lady Gaga. Attending Broadway shows, music festivals, and my grandkids’ activities are among my favorite things to do. I also enjoy exploring the intersections of history, science, and current events and writing and creating educational materials.
