  • The boys basketball team's amazing season came to an end yesterday after a loss to Barrington 56-44 in the semi-finals. The team finished the year with an overall record of 11-3, including a 6-0 record at home. Three of those wins came in the playoffs including wins over the #1 and #2 seeds in their bracket. The team would like to thank everyone who came out and supported them throughout the season. The team couldn’t have done it without all your support.

We are hoping to have something published around mid-late February, so share your work

  • The girls basketball team defeated Martin yesterday 38-26, with every 8th grade player getting points on the board. 6th grader Breena Hannon led the scoring with 14 points, followed by Brookelyn Feola who had 7, Estrella D’Ambra, Hailee Manteiga, and Ariana Ingram, who each added 4, Lizzy Santiago and Emma Bergeron with 2 points each, and Autumn Holmes with 1. Congrats on a great win and a great season ladies!
  • The boys basketball team easily cruised to a 71-48 victory over Martin. The team was led by Trey Rezendes' 23 points, Isaiah Jean-Louis 14 points, Eddie Turay's 9 points, Jay Gonsalves and Xavier Hazard's 8 points. The other scorers were Yusef Abdullah with 4 points, Skyller Garcia with 3 and Mike Repoza with 2 points. The boys finish the regular season with a record of 8-2 and head into the playoffs next

  • Get your creative writing published! There will be a meeting of the RMS Literary Magazine TODAY at 2:15 in room 228. Any student who has written a short story, poem, commentary/opinion piece or who has created a clever political cartoon is welcome to submit their work. If you can't attend the meeting, see Mr. Macomber and other arrangements will be made to submit your work.
  • The girls basketball team lost a hard fought game yesterday to Kickemuit 36-44. Estrella D’Ambra was lead scorer with 17 points, followed by Breena Hannon with 8, Brookelyn Feola with 7, and Hailee Manteiga and Jaliyah DeLosSantos each contributing a bucket. The girls play Martin in their last regular season home game on Thursday.
  • The boys team beat Kickemuit yesterday 66-47, improving to 7-2 on the year. The team was led by Trey Rezendes with 20 points, Isaiah Jean-Louis with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Eddie Turay with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The boys next game is on the road against their rivals Martin Middle School on Thursday.

  • Yearbook club will meet every Monday in room 225
  • Get your creative writing published! There will be a meeting of the RMS Literary Magazine this Wednesday, January 16 at 2:15 in room 228. Any student who has written a short story, poem, commentary/opinion piece or who has created a clever political cartoon is welcome to submit their work. This looks incredibly impressive on a college application! If you can't attend the meeting, see Mr. Macomber some time this week and other arrangements will be made to submit your work. Are you the next Anna Quinlan or David Sedaris? Your readers await.
  • Tickets for the Winter Dance (January 25th) will be sold during lunches beginning on Tuesday, January 22nd. Remember that tickets sales are limited. This dance is a fun opportunity for students who have shown responsibility, mindfulness, and scholarship! Students who have lunch balances over $10, who have more than 5 unexcused tardies or absences, overdue library books,or have been sent to the Main Office for disciplinary reasons during the month of January will not be allowed to purchase a ticket.

  • The girls basketball team defeated Bayview yesterday 58-34. With four players in double digits, the girls offense was on point, but it was their attentive defense that kept the girls well ahead the entire game. Great team win ladies! Brookelyn Feola and Breena Hannon each scored 12 points, Estrella D’Ambra scored 11, and Hailee Manteiga had 10. Harmonie McDowell contributed 6, Autumn Holmes had 5, and Lizzie Santiago had 3. The girls would also like to wish Breena Hannon a Happy 12th Birthday today!
  • All 8th-grade students, please remind your parent or guardian to sign the field trip permission slip to the Career and Technical Center and return it to your homeroom teacher TODAY. The school guidance counselors will collect them from your homeroom teachers.

  • 8th graders and parents are invited to attend the A DAY IN ACTION at East Providence High School TODAY January 9th 6-8 PM. This is the big event of the year for students who will be attending EPHS next year. Incoming Freshmen will have an opportunity to meet teachers, visit classes, and participate in clubs in a fun SCAVENGER HUNT! Come at 5:30 pm for a meet and greet with Administrators!
  • The Boys Basketball team beat previously undefeated Barrington in a back and forth game 47-41.The boys improved to 6-2 on the year. The team is back in action next Tuesday at home against Kickemuit. The whole team played hard defense keeping Barrington to their season low in points. The team used a balanced offensive attack by Yusef Abdullah, Xavier Hazard, Isaiah Jean-Louis, Aidan Greene, Trey Rezendes, Jay Gonsalves and Eddie Turay.

  • The Girls basketball team defeated Tiverton yesterday 31-28. Estrella D’Ambra was the leading scorer with 8, Brookelyn Feola contributed 6, Autumn Holmes had 4, while Hailee Manteiga had 2. The rebounds by Breena Hannon (6 pts) and Ariana Ingram(5 pts) were essential to the team win. Great win ladies! The girls lead for the entire game, but almost gave the game away in the final minutes. With under a minute to play, Tiverton tied the game up at the foul line 27-27. Brookelyn Feola scored a quick bucket to put Riverside up by 2. A questionable foul brought Tiverton back to the line for a 1 and 1, making one and keeping Riverside up 29-28. Ariana Ingram executed perfectly and was fouled to stop the clock at 3.5 seconds. Riverside’s tough defensive continued to dominate with a steal and bucket by Estrella D’Ambra to end the game 31-28 in favor of Riverside.
  • The Boys basketball team earned themselves a hard fought victory 47-42 over Tiverton. Xavier Hazard made 4 clutch free throws at the end to seal the victory. Trey Rezendes led the team with 17 points, followed by Xavier with 11(all in the second half), Yusef Abdullah with 9, Aidan Greene with 6 and Isaiah Jean-Louis rounding out the scoring with 4 points. The team improved their record to 5-2 on the year and next take on first place Barrington Tuesday Jan 8 at home

  • Congratulations to the boys Basketball team with their win over Thompson. After a back and forth first half, the boys were able to pull away from Thompson and win 72-56. The team had 4 players score in double figures led by Trey Rezendes with 25, Xavier Hazard with 15, Yusef Abdullah with 14 and Isaiah Jean-Louis with 10 points. Jayden Cadwell and Eddie Turay each had 4 points to round out the scoring. The team turned up the defense in the second half creating numerous turnover that led to lay ups. The boys head into the winter break with a 4-2 record.
  • The girls basketball team lost to an undefeated Thompson team, 35-58. The girls played well but couldn’t overtake the experienced Thompson ladies. Estrella D’Ambra, a 7th grader for the Vikings, led the scoring with 16 points, including 4 threes. Breena Hannon contributed 11, with Hailee Manteiga adding 8.

December 19, 2018

  • The Boys Basketball team defeated Davisville yesterday. After a tight first half that ended tied at 19, the team pulled away in the second half winning 53-39. The team used a balanced attack with players in double figures. Trey Rezendes had 15, Xavier Hazard had 11, and Yusef Abdullah and Isaiah Jean-Louis each had 10 points. Eddie Turay with 4 and Aidan Greene with 3 points rounded out the scoring. There is NO boys basketball practice today. The team is back in action on Thursday at home against Thompson.
  • The Girls Basketball team also defeated Davisville yesterday 35-23. After being tied 14-14 at the half, the girls exploded in the second half and never looked back. Solid defense controlled Davisville, and team passing and patience led the girls to the win. Leading scorer, Breena Hannon, scored 14 points and had multiple assists, followed by Brookelyn Feola who contributed 8, Jaliyah De Los Santos and Hailee Manteiga both scored 4, Elizabeth Santiago with 3, and Autumn Holmes added a bucket. The girls play again at Thompson on Thursday. Great win ladies! We would also like to thank the Wrestling team, whose support fired the girls up in the second half!

  • The RMS Boys Basketball team defeated Jamestown 68-37. The boys jumped out to a 38-17 halftime lead before cruising to victory. The team was lead by Trey Rezendes with 21 points, Xavier Hazard with 15 and Yusef Abdullah with 12. Eddie Turay was strong down low gathering 14 rebounds. The team continues their season Tuesday on the road at Gaudet Middle School.

  • The girls basketball team fell short against Portsmouth yesterday 34-22. The girls started strong going into halftime tied at 9-9, but the Patriots offense came on strong in the last 5 minutes of the game, prevaling over the Lady Vikings. Solid defense for the majority of the game, as well as high scorer Hailee Manteiga, who had 12, kept the Vikings close until the end. Breena Hannon and Ariana Ingram each contributed 4, with Brookelyn Feola adding a bucket as well. The girls play again Thursday at Johnston

  • We are excited to report that our school's robotics team had an outstanding day at the Portsmouth MS First LEGO League Qualifier Tournament on Saturday, November 17. We won a special award called the Judges Award and the team qualified to compete at the RI First LEGO League Championship held at Roger Williams University on Saturday, January 12, 2019.

  • The cross country team participated in yesterday's Freaky 5K charity road race, sponsored by the East Providence Fire Dept. Over 35 students, staff and family members participated in the event. Individual awards were won by Makena Petsch, Dylan Flynn and Lana Melmed, who finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in their age group. Luke McCoy edged out Colin Leddy to be the first Viking to cross the finish line. More importantly, the cross country team raised almost $900 for local charities and families in need. Congratulations RMS XC on a job well done!!

  • The cross country team did an an outstanding job in yesterday's divisional meet. In the boy's varsity race, Lucas Santa-Cruz finished 12th overall out of almost 200 runners. He was the first 6th grader to cross the finish line and ran the 1.8 mile course in 11 min 30 secs. Manny Santos finished next for the Vikings, followed by Luke McCoy, Colin Leddy, Ryan Stover, Kyler Lorenz and Matt Patrone. Simon Palombo finished first for Riverside in the boy's JV race. In the girl's varsity race, Emma Nordquist finished 23rd overall out of 200 runners. She was followed by Katie Patalano, Lana Melmed, Nazarae Phillip, Dylan Flynn, Sydney Amaral and LiLi Schoenfelder. Abigail Leddy was Riverside's top runner in the girl's JV race

  • Sign up for After School Enrichment will be 8 week sessions and will run in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. This season, we are offering 1.) golf, 2.) video & audio production, 3.) yoga, and 4.)   • The cross country team finished in 2nd place in yesterday's meet against Bay View and Portsmouth Middle School.In the boy's race, 6th grader, Lucas Santa-Cruz finished 2nd overall out of 52 runners. Also placing in the top 20 for the boys were Ryan Stover, Kyler Lorenz, Colin Leddy and Luke McCoy.In the girl's race of 56 runners, RMS was led by Emma Nordquist, who finished 4th overall. 6th grader, Katie Patalano, finished 6th overall, followed by Makena Petsch in 9th, Sydney Amaral in 14tth, and Lana Melmed in 15th place. All runners worked hard and did a great job for their first race. The cross country team will race again next Tuesday in Newport.
  • The girl' soccer team has improved their record to 1 win 0 losses and 1 tie. Hailee Manteiga and Estrella D'Ambra both scored a goal. The girl's will announce their next game soon

  • Thank you to the entire RMS School Community for helping us get through some difficult, hot days. Everyone pulled together and made the best of some nasty weather! As it looks that the hot weather may return, students are reminded to bring a water bottle to school.

  • Girls Soccer try-outs will be held after school on Tuesday. Any girl wishing to try out should make sure to bring soccer gear to school. The try outs are at the field in front of the school and start at 2:30pm. All athletes must have an up to date physical (not older than a year), an assumption of risk form notarized (only for new athletes), and register on Family ID. Students must complete these requirements in order to participate in try-outs.
  • Coach Souza will be here today to speak about Soccer Tryouts for boys. An announcement will be made at the end of the day.
  • Next week will be our first RMS Raffle of the year. Teachers will nominate students for displaying responsibility, mindfulness, and scholarship!
