Excellence in Achievement Awards
The Andre Wissink (Performing Arts) Award (Drama)
This memorial trophy is named in honor of a former Queen Elizabeth High School student and is awarded to a student for his or her contribution to Drama over a period of three years.
The Don Pasmore (Budding Artist) Award
This award is presented to the student who has achieved personal style through in-depth studies and has begun to think and behave as an artist, with a spirit of service. The recipient shares their creative ideas with the larger community creating art that honors the spirit of a community and achievements of Edmonton Public Schools for public display.
The Keith Tymofichuk Award
This award, named in honor of a former Queen Elizabeth High School student, is presented to the student who has the highest average in Chemistry 30, Physics 30, and Math 30-1 or 30-2.
The Knowledge and Employability Award
This award is presented to the student who has achieved excellence in effort and achievement in the Knowledge and Employability program at Queen Elizabeth High School.
The Sandy Mitchell ESL Award
This award is named in honor of a former English as a Second Language (ESL) Department Head at Queen Elizabeth High School, and is presented to an English Language Learner (ELL) student who demonstrates perseverance in studies; determination for personal educational excellence and social empathy.
The Slandy Production Video Award
This award is presented to the student who has achieved completion of the introductory, intermediate and advanced Video Production curriculum. In addition this student has shown character that does not hit the cutting room floor. Their efforts have not been edited and their story continues to be key. This trophy is awarded to the student who has shown a committed contribution to Video Production over the past 3 years.
The Sharon Lang (Choral) Award
This award it presented to the student who has achieved excellence in the Knights Voices Choir at Queen Elizabeth High School.
The Transitions Academic Award
This award is presented to the student who has achieved excellence in effort and achievement in their Transitions courses at Queen Elizabeth High School.
Extraordinary Awards
The Bill & Ruth Grundy Award Scholarship
This award recognizes a graduating student who has demonstrated outstanding perseverance and commitment to post-secondary education. The recipient’s academic achievement, drive and dedication to pursue post-secondary studies, and financial need are key criteria to this award.
The Gilbert C. Murray Humanitarian Award
This memorial trophy was created in honour of a former Queen Elizabeth High School student. The award is given to a student who, in an unassuming way, has been of service to his or her fellow students and the school during the past year.
The Governor General’s Academic Medal – Bronze
This medal is awarded to the student who achieves the highest average upon graduation from a secondary school. The average includes all grade 11 and grade 12 courses, options included, as listed on the student’s official transcript of Grades issued by the Ministry of Education.
The High School Citizenship Award
This award recognizes an individual with outstanding characteristics in the areas of academic ability, leadership abilities in school, community or extracurricular activities and who demonstrates a willingness to place the good of others above personal ambitions.
The Kinsmen Club of Edmonton Community Service Award
This award is presented to a graduating student to recognize outstanding contributions to community service, and helping others.
The Walter P. Sharek Outstanding Student Award
This award was donated to the school by a former principal and is presented to a student who has contributed to at least three of the following: Academics, Athletics, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Speech Arts and Service and who has been outstanding in at least two of these areas.
The Yogindra Persaud Memorial Academic Scholarship
Yogindra (Yogi) Persaud attended Queen Elizabeth High School from 1995-1998 and graduated with honors. Continuing with his education, Yogi finished University in 2003 graduating with a degree in computer sciences and began his career as a web developer. Sadly, he passed away on December 14, 2008. He will always be missed and loved. This scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating student who exhibits outstanding academic achievement and plans to attend a post-secondary institution of their choice. May this scholarship provide another with the opportunity to fulfill their life goals and dreams.
