Focus on Skills and Processes
M.E. LaZerte prides itself on being an innovative and inspirational school, tirelessly looking for new and better ways to Inspire Passion, Develop Character, and Change Lives. In keeping with this endeavor, the English Department has shifted the ways we engage with our students and present our material. Rather than focusing solely on texts and tasks (as all English Departments have done since the dawn of time), we have altered our work to engage more purposefully with Reading and Writing Processes, as well as a greater diversity skills development. Of course, we still value and engage with a diversity of inspirational texts - from classics to fresh-off-the-presses modern texts - but we are now doing so in different ways. We are striving to empower our students to appreciate the craftsmanship of text creation, to internalize the effects of these choices, and to subsequently implement these skill sets into their own work. Our pedagogical practices reflect this shift as do our Grading systems, and our students over the past three years have appreciated this new focus. As always, our aim is to help all of our students understand the power that language has, and in this regard we are proud of the many successes that we have achieved, especially in regards to these recent changes.

All artists require a pen name in order to get into the magazine to protect anonymity and the digital magazine is published once a month in the VG Newsletter. It's a great opportunity for students with talent to have their work seen/read by a wide audience. Come and join LaZerte's Literary Magazine.
