What is the IB Programme?
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme follows an international curriculum that is taught in over 153 countries and transferable around the world. The programme promotes critical thinking, well roundedness and balance for students. It is a two-year course of study that positions you for success at university anywhere in the world. Grade 10 students complete Pre-IB Diploma courses before entering into the full program in Grades 11 and 12. Students in the Pre-IB Diploma Grade 10 year will complete the same final and unit exams as students in the regular curriculum; they will receive more enrichment, more field trips and more lab activities than students following the regular curriculum... so the Grade 10 year is a great way to test drive the full IB Diploma Programme and make an informed decision. Students may also choose to take a partial program where they choose one or more IB courses rather than the full diploma program. To find out more visit www.ibo.org

What is the Pre-IB Diploma Program?
Our programme is delivered to grade 10 students and is designed to build the skills required for the successful completion of International Baccalaureate courses which students will pursue when they join the the formal IB Programme in grade 11 and 12. In addition to fulfilling prerequisites for the I.B. Diploma, IB students must meet the demands of the Alberta High School Diploma. A typical Grade 10 programme is outlined in the
M.E. LaZerte Pre-IB Course Description Booklet.
The International Baccalaureate Programme is recognized by the University of Alberta. Students who successfully complete the Diploma requirements are granted a 100-level Open Elective (three credits). Selected courses are granted Advanced Placement or credit by Special Assessment.

Prerequisites
Students are encouraged to:
Earn marks of at least 75% (or a B+) in Grade 9 core courses, although an overall average of at least 75% across all courses is encouraged for admission.
Be motivated to become more well-rounded and to join a global-minded learning community that believes in local action and citizenship.
How is Grade 10 Pre-IB Diploma student’s timetable different from other Grade 10 students?
Pre-IB Diploma (PIB) students have the possibility to take CALM and Phys Ed in Grade 10 in an early morning class creating extra space for another option.
Student Leadership is not mandatory for PIB Diploma students but it is recommended and can be completed outside of the regular timetable.
All Grade 10 students must take an international language and will take Math 10C PIB Diploma and Math 20-1 PIB Diploma in their Grade 10 year.
All Grade 10 PIB’s can have up to two blocks for Grade 10 options in addition to the international language course and we highly recommend that these students consider trying one of our IB fine arts courses like Art 10 PIB Diploma or Drama 10 PIB Diploma as both of these continue on to IB courses in Grade 11 and 12.
For full information on the Grade 11 and 12 years of the IB Programme please consult the detailed IB course description booklet that can be found on our IB page of the LaZerte website.
