On behalf of the staff and school council, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all children and parents of the school, and also to those beginning their association with Epping Primary School. I am extremely proud and honoured to be the Principal of this wonderful school, and I cherish the opportunity to assist in the development of our most precious resource – our children.
We are a vibrant primary school with a proud history, offering a comprehensive education to approximately 450 students from Prep to Grade Six across two sites. At the beginning of 2012, Epping Primary School and Greenbrook Primary School officially merged under the name Epping Primary School. Both sites remained open and now offer full programs from P-6. The High Street Campus caters for 320 students and the Greenbrook Campus 130 students. This is an important and exciting time in the proud history of both schools, as we combine the best practices and programs from each to create an exciting, new Epping Primary School.
Our school is forward-thinking and my vision is for each student to develop into a successful and confident person with a love of learning. All learning at Epping Primary School is student-centred and developmentally appropriate.
We have a supportive and positive community with full involvement in school life. Our staff are open, highly committed and willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that every learner is both challenged and fulfilled in their learning. We value our partnership with families and develop relationships based on mutual respect.
Our programs encompass the entirety of the Victorian Curriculum. The major focus of learning is Literacy, Numeracy and Integrated Inquiry Learning which promotes the key to our success: curiosity. Because each student learns differently, our aim is to continually reflect on the nature of each learner and to use the data gathered through formal assessment and observation to target the needs of each student. In Numeracy, and in all aspects of Literacy, this means that students have the opportunity to work at a level that matches their ability. Every student is unique and has a range of skills, talents and abilities. We want every child to develop the confidence to succeed and the skills to adapt to a fast-changing world.
For teachers, it means knowing students better, and using different strategies and tools to guide each learner to the next level of understanding or skill. We are fortunate to have an extremely talented and enthusiastic staff, always striving to improve their teaching practice through professional learning, cooperation and collaboration.
Communication and positive relationships are highly valued at Epping Primary School. We believe that open dialogue between staff, students and parents is essential to develop and maintain a thriving learning environment. We all have the opportunity to work together as a cohesive learning community to provide the best possible learning opportunities in a safe and supportive environment.
Our school values are: Resilience, Persistence, Honesty, Responsibility and Respect. Our values are statements of belief about the attitudes, skills, and approaches to learning that we want to foster in our students. They are intended both to permeate and to be reflected by every aspect of school life, in and out of the classroom, as well as home and community life. In addition, they can be seen as broad statements of purpose that focus the school’s energies in curriculum, programs and policies.
On behalf of our students and staff, I extend an invitation to you to visit our school and learn more about what makes Epping Primary School a special place for learning.
