CHORAL SPEAKING COMPETITION RULES AND GUIDELINES

INTRODUCTION

Choral Speaking is a competition organised by the Teachers’ Training Institute of the International Campus of Kuala Lumpur. The competition aims at encouraging and increasing the use of English among pupils or students. It builds confidence in pupils or students to memorise, speak, render and express themselves in English.

ELIGIBILITY

This competition is open to all primary school pupils (Private, Public & International) from Years 4 to 6 only.

Each Choral Speaking team comprises members from the same school.

DURATION OF PRESENTATION

Record a video of your performance. Each team is given a presentation time limit of 5 to 8 minutes. Marks will be deducted thereafter.

TEAM

Each team should comprise 25 to 30 pupils or students. A conductor should be appointed amongst these pupils or students.

Each team should be accompanied by a teacher-in-charge if they are selected to perform in the final round of the competition.

EXCLUSIONS

There should be no inclusion of music, drama, costume, props or artificial sound effects.

Any inclusion of singing, skit or physical movement should enhance and not dominate the presentation.

STAGE ARRANGEMENT

The arrangement of the teams on the stage will be in fixed 3-tiered rows.

JUDGING

Points will be awarded according to subject matter, articulation, expression, rhythm & timing, sound effects, general demeanour.

Judges will collectively determine the placing by a clear majority vote.

The decision of the judges is final.

Individual team marks will not be disclosed.

VIDEO LINK SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

For the preliminary round, each team should record their performance, upload the video to YouTube to obtain a link and submit the link of the recording via the entry form below.

FINALISTS

Six finalists will be selected from the entries. The six finalists will participate in the final IN-PERSON round of competition to select the three winners. 

Finalists will be informed on Wednesday 30 August 2023 via our website. Watch this space!

The organiser shall not bear the cost of accommodation or transportation or any expenses for this purpose. Participants are responsible for all logistics and accommodation arrangements. All expenses are non-reimbursable.

The final round of competition will be held at:

Date: Wednesday, 13 September 2023

Time: 2.30 p.m.

Medals will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners when the competition ends on Wednesday, 13 September 2023.

Certificates will be awarded to the finalists.


CERTIFICATES OF PARTICIPATION

All participants will receive a certificate of participation to be sent to the email address indicated in the competition entry form.
