According to recent news reports, TikTok, a popular social media company based in Los Angeles and Singapore, plans to challenge a proposed U.S. ban in court arguing that said ban would be unconstitutional. TikTok claims to have invested billions in data security and argues that the ban would harm seven million businesses and silence 170 million Americans. According to a statement from the TikTok website, “The company remains committed to innovation and ensuring a safe platform for users to share their experiences.”
We asked fellow Panthers here on campus how they felt about a proposed ban and here is what they had to say: (Please note that all students wished to remain anonymous)
A.C. | Grade 9
A.C. believes that TikTok should not be banned because there are lots of useful things on TikTok, like recipes and [important] news information.
A.G. | Grade 9
A.G. also thinks that TikTok should not be banned because there are a lot of funny and interesting videos on TikTok; she also says TikTok is what helps her stay focused on what she needs to do. She also says it is something that helps her communicate with her friends because she is not allowed to have any other social media at the moment.
N.M. | Grade 9
N.M. said that TikTok should be banned because there is inappropriate stuff on there; she also said some younger kids have TikTok, and they should put an age limit on it. She said that TikTok is really inappropriate.
S.G. | Grade 11
S.G. also said that TikTok should be banned and thinks that TikTok should have never been created because it’s inappropriate and doesn't make any sense. He says that TikTok is “way too crazy” and overwhelms a lot of little kids.
