In the Swans Class this week...

In class we will be focusing on developing the children's fine motor skills and pre writing activities daily. All of the lessons and skills learned are on going.

Kids need to use fine motor skills to do many school-related tasks. These include:

Letters Learned:   Ss  Aa  Tt  Ii     Pp     Nn    Cc     Kk     Ee    Hh   Rr   Mm   Dd    Gg   Oo   Uu    Ll

Practice identifying words that begin with the learned letters

Letter of the week:  Ff

Practice identifying words that begin with the learned letters

Our children are early readers and they can see prints everywhere that they can read.  It is called Environmental print. It is the print of everyday life. It's the name given to the print that appears in signs, labels, and logos. Street signs, candy wrappers, labels on peanut butter and the M for McDonald's are other examples of environmental print. Let them read prints everywhere they go!

Understanding stories by retelling, lessons learned from the story and learning its elements like identifying characters and setting, knowing the parts of the story: beginning, middle and end.

Our Big Idea is Habitats. This week, we will be reviewing all the habitats we have learnt about.

The desert, the savannah, the ocean, the jungle/rain forest and the polar/arctic habitats.

Review all lessons learned.  Practice rhyming words and continue with word families (-at,-an, -ap)

In Math,  number concepts including ten frames and simple problem solving will be ongoing. For the coming weeks, we will focus on mastering teen numbers, number values up tp 20, 3D shapes we see everywhere, review primary and secondary colors, ordinal numbers, positional words, and extended patterns, identifying numbers before, after and in between. Math concepts will be taught through hands - on activities and will be ongoing all throughout the school year.

Please practice all of these with your child as a follow-up at home.  Their development in academic and emotional growth depends on both school and home.

The children can bring in their favourite toy, a photograph of their friends or family, game etc. Please label anything brought in.

Ms Leah has been teaching for 2 Years back home in the Philippines and this is her 3rd year at EMS.
