Whanganui’s own BB & The Bullets are gearing up for a milestone moment this spring. The hard-hitting three-piece blues rock outfit will release their debut album High Tide on September 12, alongside a 12-date North Island tour that showcases their raw, electrifying live energy.
Having built a reputation across Aotearoa for performances that draw comparisons to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter, and Jeff Beck, BB & The Bullets have carved their own space in the lineage of modern blues. Recorded at frontman Brian Baker’s Nixon Street studio, the album captures the chemistry between Baker (guitar/vocals), Stu Duncan (bass), and Brad McMillan (drums) - a sound born from relentless gigging on the local circuit and refined with heart and grit.
Adding to the excitement, High Tide will see an international release through iconic French label Dixiefrog Records, taking the Whanganui trio’s music to the United States, UK, Europe, Canada, Australia, and beyond. “Working with Dixiefrog and having our record released internationally is a dream come true for our little Whanganui band,” shares Baker.
Fans have already had a taste with three singles: the swampy debut “Something In The Water,” the soaring title track “High Tide,” and a blues-drenched take on the Beatles’ “I Want You (She’s So Heavy),” which has quickly become a live showstopper. “We wanted to respect the original while putting our own stamp on it. It’s such a perfect storm of a song,” says Baker.
With High Tide set to make waves both at home and overseas, and a run of festival appearances lined up for summer, BB & The Bullets are stepping onto the global stage armed with a sound that feels both timeless and urgent.
