Ron Pattinson Returns to EMU!

Presented by Brewery Becker and EMU Fermentation Science

Sponsored by Ann Arbor Brewers Guild and Fermenta: A Women's Craft Collective

Ron Pattinson, renowned beer historian and author of the popular blog Shut Up About Barclay Perkins, will be returning to Eastern Michigan University to give two presentations on Saturday, October 12 in the Strong Hall Auditorium. This event is cosponsored by Brewery Becker and the EMU Fermentation Science program, with generous support from the Ann Arbor Brewers Guild, Edelbrau Brewing Company, and Fermenta: A Women's Craft Collective. We request that you pre-register for the talk if you plan on attending. (On-site registration will be available.) You can register for free here: true.mu/pattinson

What is the event schedule, and what time should I be there?

The main event starts at 10:30 am in the Strong Hall Auditorium. The tentative schedule is:

  • 10:30 am - Seminar #1: "German Sour Beers"
  • 11:30 am - Social break, book signings, tours of new Fermentation Science Facilities
  • 12:30 pm - Seminar #2: "Brettanomyces in British Brewing"

Where is the Strong Hall Auditorium, anyway? And where should I park? (map below)

Strong Hall is located in the southwest corner of EMU's main campus, near the corner of Washtenaw Avenue and Oakwood Street; on the campus map (see bottom of page or this link), it can be found labeled as "STRG" in grid D3 in the upper left corner of the map. There is a limited amount of street parking in the neighborhood around campus. Paid public parking for events in Strong is available in Lot G at the corner of Washtenaw and Oakwood. To access Lot G, after turning onto Oakwood Street from Washtenaw Avenue/Cross Street, take the first right, which is labeled "McKenny Drive." Once on McKenny Drive, proceed a few feet to the first driveway on the right. Please utilize the drive to enter the McKenny Paid lot. Strong Hall is a short walk to the northeast from the McKenny lot; follow the dashed line on the map below for the easiest route to find the auditorium. NOTE: EMU has a new parking vendor, and they aggressively patrol the permit-only lots, including on weekends. Be sure to park in a paid visitor parking lot or off-campus if you do not have the proper EMU permit! (See maps below for details.)

Will there be beer tasting?

Details are still being worked out, but yes, we anticipate having historical beers to sample during the break and/or during tours of the Fermentation Science facilities.

Is there more information about the beers provided?

Information will be provided at the event, and on this website in the very near future.

Can I bring my own beers to share?

Unfortunately, we are not able to permit outside beverages at this on-campus event.

Where can I stay up to date on this event?

Watch this site, and if you're on Facebook, follow EMU Fermentation Science here. Links to the event on Facebook will be available soon.

Who are the fantastic sponsors of this event, again?

Aw, you're so kind for asking! Brewery Becker and EMU Fermentation Science did the heaviest lifting, but we couldn't have done it without very generous support from the Ann Arbor Brewers Guildand Fermenta: A Women's Craft Collective. Check them all out at the links above and on their logos below!

Can I/my organization sponsor this event?

Interest in sponsorship is always appreciated! Contact Cory Emal at cemal@emich.edu to see what opportunities are still available.
