The final animation for this project. A short, 1-minute, animation featuring the adventure of a very small explorer in a very large set of ruins.
Scenes, sounds, and title/end cards put together in Shotcut.
I had a few different sets of story boards, most more complicated than this. As I worked, i realized I wouldn't be able to complete in time and had to adjust to something much more simple. This storyboard is the result. Just a simple, linear story: get from point A to point B. The notes on the storyboards describe my intentions for each scene.
Overall I wanted to go for a more cartoony/fantasy look to this animation. So I picked out a lot of textures that were less realistic, but still interesting to look at.
I used this texture for the ceiling and the steps in the cave and in the first square room.
It was gotten from www.istockphoto.com.
I used this for the walls of the first room and the hallway.
I found this texture from assetstore.unity.com.
I used this for the uneven cave walls in the first scene. It worked well with the uneven surface and made it look more natural.
Found from dumielauxepices.net.
This was used for the little cartoon character in the animation. I wanted it to be sort of golem-like/ made of stone. But I also wanted it to stand out among the darker blue colors. I decided red would be a good contrast and easier to see.
Found from www.vectorstock.com
I wanted the door to have some kind of carving. I really liked the look of this coaster made by SAGaStone on etsy.com. It's round, and literally carved from stone so it worked wonderfully for the project.
Her stuff is for sale at her etsy store.
This was used for the floor of the first room and the hallway. I wanted more stone for sure, but nothing that looked too similar to the walls. This was a nice, variable, pattern.
Found from dumielauxepices.net.
This was used for the columns in the first room and the walls of the final, circular room. The colors and built-in shading really worked well with the scenes.
Found from marketplace.secondlife.com
This was used for the floor and ceiling of the last round room. I wanted there to be this sense the that that room was important (as it was the end of the story)
Found as an image of an actual product listing from www.houzz.com
This .gif was used in the final room for the "column of stars" at the end. The column itself was actually green. I used green-screen effect in the Shotcut editing software to impose this moving image onto the column.
All of the sound effects used in the animation were gotten from www.freesound.org.
They were simply found by typing in appropriate keywords and downloading them. They were added to the animation using the editing software Shotcut.
