Self-Reflection

Photography and Graphic Design

The photo was taken above Church Hill and digitally painted through Clip Studio Paint. I want to become an illustrator/animator and comic books have been a huge inspiration. For a vintage look I added some dirt marks, pen textured line art, and colored outside the lines to give it a "handcrafted" look. Older comic books within the 1930's did not paint people of color in a positive light. African Americans were stereotyped with big pink lips, disproportionate noses, and some skin as black as a chalkboard. This piece is to combat that narrative and is representation of who I want to be. As a former IT major and now artist, each class I have taken at Brightpoint has led me through this journey of improvement and self-discovery.
