Houses and Trees

by John-Lewis Opher

Sculpture

This piece is a recreation of one of Leonardo DeVine's untiled works. The materials used were cardboard and acrylic paints. The size of the sculpture is upwards of 5ft tall. Since the original work was 2d, I had to take some creative liberties when painting the back of the building in a brick texture. There are over two hundred small circles surrounding the hybrid flowers/trees and the building. The intricate cuts of the petals to show the negative space took some time. As an inspiring illustrator/animator who mainly works in 2d, if it wasn't for my Three-dimensional class, I would have never known that I could make a sculpture like this.
