Welcome to our Room 10 Classroom Community!
A little bit about myself...
I've been teaching first graders for 27 years, which amazes me each time I stop to think about it. I started teaching in Reading, Massachusetts, and spent a year in Westwood before coming to Medfield in 2001.
Prior to teaching, I worked for a few years at a non-profit and then later at a software company in Cambridge. These were years filled with lots of learning and growth, but my transition to education was one that always felt right. I've never looked back.
I live in Norfolk with my husband and two sweet dogs, Cooper and Ellie. We enjoy spending time on long hikes and adventures in Vermont, where I grew up. We also love to garden, keep honeybees and cook lots of delicious (and healthy) foods.
As a yoga teacher, I incorporate regular yoga, movement and mindfulness breaks in the classroom which keeps our brains and bodies ready to learn. That, and a steady dose of silly songs, makes Room 10 a special place to be.
Thanks to the generous support of MCPE, I started a garden outside the classroom several years ago, which is a big Room 10 highlight each year. Our adventure as "farmers" is punctuated by our study of honeybees where we make lots of connections to real life concepts.
The notion that "the magic is in the mess" reminds me that each day brings many new positive possibiities as well as opportunities to keep going when challenges and unexpected hiccups arise.
First graders are FUN! Room 10 is a place where we teach and learn together, work and laugh hard, and sing silly, ridiculous songs as often as possible!
I'm excited to work with this year's fabulous group of first graders and I'm glad you're on this ride with us! Onward we go!
