Phi Theta Kappa

Dear Prospective Phi Theta Kappans

Congratulations on your academic success and thank you for your recent inquiry about membership in Phi Theta Kappa, one of the options mentioned in the letter you received from Dr. Crawford, the EVPI for the College.

Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society for Two-Year Colleges, recognizes sustained academic excellence and provides leadership opportunities for its members as well as eligibility for scholarships. The membership benefits section of the PTK website elaborates on these aspects.

Membership is by invitation only. See application process below. Once the quarter is complete, a list of eligible students is submitted to Phi Theta Kappa. You will receive a letter of invitation to join directly from Phi Theta Kappa. Check your edmail.edcc.edu account for an invitation from Phi Theta Kappa with the subject "Congrats! Your Invitation Is Here!"

Membership Criteria

Students who meet ALL of the following criteria are eligible for membership in the college's chapter, Alpha Alpha Lambda:

  • are completing two-year programs (AA, AS, ATA) or working towards your BAS (Bachelor of Applied Science)
  • have completed at least 16 college-level credits (courses 100 or above) that may be applied to an Associates or BAS degree
  • have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher

Application Process

The application process is changing for Fall 2019. Eligible students will receive a letter of invitation directly from Phi Theta Kappa. Please contact hnrs@edcc.edu if you are interested in joining but did not receive a letter from PTK.

Why join?

Phi Theta Kappa celebrates the academic achievement of its members and provides leadership and scholarship opportunities. Membership is noted on your EdCC transcript.

Graduation

Each June the chapter formally inducts new members, and graduating members may wear the Phi Theta Kappa golden tassel and stole during the Commencement ceremony. In order to participate in the induction ceremony, your application must be received by May 1.

We wish you all success in your studies this quarter and look forward to hearing from you.
