Leadership & Life Skill Development for Teens

Abstract

For more than 25 years, the goal of Yuma County 4-H Ambassadors has always been to provide leadership opportunities for high school aged youth through their participation in numerous community service projects, many civic engagement presentations, welcoming and greeting dignitaries (e.g. local, state, and national politicians) to our community and many other activities to promote the 4-H program, not only in Yuma County, but across Arizona.

Through anecdotal feedback the community values the program, but are its participants gaining important leadership and life skills while being involved? A research project designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Ambassador program has been initiated to capture the experience of the Ambassadors as well as the impact of the Ambassador Program in developing critical life skills is explored.
