Hi! My name is Sadie (She/Her), and this is my first year at Elmwood. My favourite thing to do in my free time is playing instruments and creating music. My main instruments are piano, which I’ve been playing for 12 years, and trumpet, which I’ve been playing for 5 years. My favourite styles of music to play are classical and jazz. I’m currently working on Royal Conservatory Level 8 piano. Along the way, I’ve picked up many different instruments like the drums, electric guitar and violin.
My music taste is rather eclectic. My favourite styles to listen to at the moment are rock, musical theatre and jazz. Some of my favourite artists include Maneskin, Elton John, Billy Joel, Phoebe Bridgers and Jacob Collier.
This is a piece inspired by the character Merida from the 2012 Pixar film Brave. This composition uses influences from traditional Celtic music to reflect the film’s setting of Medieval Scotland. It also uses somewhat complicated rhythms and a quick tempo to convey both Merida’s adventurous spirit, and the fact that she is forced to seek out adventure in private away from her mother’s strict rules.
