MEET LILY!

Hello! My name is Lily (They/Them) and this is my third year at Elmwood. My family and I moved from China to Canada in 2021.

I love photography, travelling, hanging out with friends and I am a member of the Elmwood improv theatre team.

I enjoy writing music, listening to music and performing music. This is my eighth year of playing the violin, which is my main instrument. I have also played the hulusi, which is a traditional Chinese wind instrument, for nine years. Some instruments I picked up along the way are the acoustic guitar and the piano.

My music taste consists of a variety of genres, such as musical theatre, rock, alternative and J-pop. Some of my favourite artists include Mitski, boygenius, and girl in red.

MULAN'S THEME

This motif is composed for Fa Mulan, the protagonist of the 1998 Disney animated movie Mulan. The movie was inspired by the story of a Chinese legendary folk heroine from approximately the 5th century C.E. The A section of the composition attempts to capture the courageous and determined character of Mulan, with the buildup in string textures and the steady tempo, while the B section of the composition depicts the softer side of her character.
