Hi, my name is Samaya (She/Her) and I am from the country of Canada. I like to spend my time outside, going on walks with my dog and having picnics with friends. I also love listening to music when cooking or doing work and also with my dog.
In Music class, I have been playing both the bass and acoustic guitar. I really like to play the guitar because I feel like it can work with so many different types of music. I had never tried the bass before, but this year Ms. Kim taught me how to play and it was really fun! I like how it also works with many different music and now when I listen to my favourite songs, I really notice the bass in them when I never would've noticed it before.
This composition is based on Scar, the villain from the animated movie The Lion King. He is a mighty evil lion who has always wanted to be king, but unfortunately his brother got his dream instead of him. With that in mind, this themed motif is designed to show Scar's personality of mightiness and scariness.
This leitmotif is based on the scene showing a glimpse of Scar's regrets as he faces death, realizing that he should have treated everyone better and not killed his brother. This music is slower and sadder than the original, using piano and violin instead of trombone and drums to contrast the original motif.
What did you find to be the most enjoyable from this experience?
I enjoyed working on this project because it was really fun to learn how to use a music editing app and learn how to compose music for a character. I also liked working on this because I had to think about what musical conventions would work for the character.
What did you find to be the most challenging from this experience?
I also found it challenging to use this app because it is a bit complicated but not too bad. Another thing that was challenging was coming up with ideas for the composition and how to make the motif and leitmotif fit in with the character's personality.
