Hello, my name is Sacha (She/Her), and I am from Canada. I have traveled and lived in a variety of locations; so this can conclude that I enjoy traveling, as well as, visiting museums to learn more about a country's culture and language and looking at art. Also, I enjoy reading, sports, being outside, and listening to music with my cats.
I now play the guitar and have begun to learn the drums as well, which I am thoroughly enjoying. I once used to play the piano, however I did not continue, and I used to play the tuba as well in Middle School, which I did enjoy.
Elliot Smith is one of my favourite artists because of his distinct voice and his skill with the guitar, which is evident in his music.
This character theme is written for Snow White from the animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. My aim for this leitmotif is for it to be simple and uplifting to best represent my character. When she is singing with the birds, I added a counter melody using the flute to represent the birds. This musical motif is in a major tonality and this composition features a call and response between different instruments.
This leitmotif is representing the scene of the funeral for Snow White; though she is sleeping, the seven dwarfs and all the animals do not know until she is later woken up by a kiss from the Prince. To convey the sad emotions of this scene, the music is played in lower octaves and the flute is replaced the violin. In comparison to the original theme, the tempo is also set to be slower.
What did you find to be the most enjoyable from this experience?
I thoroughly enjoyed creating a motif and a leitmotif because it was my first experience composing a composition with a leitmotif and motif. I also enjoyed using the program Sibelius. This was my first time combining the flute and violin (from what I recall), furthermore, I also liked using the different chord tones as well as a countermelody. Lastly, I had fun making the video for both my motif and leitmotif to really see it come together with the character and scene.
What did you find to be the most challenging from this experience?
What was difficult was finding the appropriate melody for the character/scene and figuring out how to modify it between the bars. Furthermore, attempting to select the proper instrument was challenging because there are so many various types of instruments and I wasn't always certain what sound to employ. Making the leitmotif seemed easier to me because I already had the motif; nevertheless, making it sorrowful and preserving the melody was difficult because it was scary for me to make major modifications to the composition.
