Hi! My name is Eliza (She/Her) and I was born in Ottawa. I enjoy playing sports, such as volleyball, soccer, skiing, swimming, and I will be starting snowboarding this coming winter. With that said, my favourite season is winter because of all the activities that you can do; however, I also enjoy the summer because that's when I get to go to camp!
I used to play many different instruments but I finally settled on the piano, trumpet, and guitar as my primary instruments. I have been classically trained on the piano since I was 4 years old and recently just started guitar and trumpet this year. Aside from that, I really enjoy creating music for myself mostly on my guitar and piano but also occasionally on the ukulele too!
This main theme is written for Maleficent from the live-action movie Maleficent. I added a contrabass, violin, piano, and timpani to add that turning-evil factor to my composition. Also, I wanted to make certain lines of instruments, such as the timpani, to be more dramatic so I made the dynamics to be forte and loud.
This variation of the main theme for Maleficent is scored for the scene from the movie when she gets her wings back and fights the King. To make the sound to be more grand for this moment, I used horns in the repetition of the leitmotif.
What did you enjoy the most from this experience?
I enjoyed adding in most of the different instruments which added layers to my music; however, my absolute favourite part about creating this was making the motif. I really liked making my motif because I had so many different ideas which could then be added to my full piece.
What did you find to be the most challenging from this experience?
Even though one of my favourite parts of my composition was adding different instruments, it was equally difficult. I struggled mostly on adding in the different parts at certain parts where I didn't think they fit. I ended up trying out new patterns and they ended up fitting all together nicely.
