A simple browser search will unearth numerous "do it yourself" blog posts, videos and podcasts that proclaim, We are all writers! We are all designers! It is true that today writers and designers can find free digital design templates to successfully produce sophisticated content for online publishing, however, the challenge for content creators is to identify the most effective ways to communicate their message. This studio-based course provides strategies that guide students in mindfully creating and posting their content on both personal spaces and social media.
Objectives:
A) Identify and apply Internet resources for DIY content creation
B) Research the history and potential problems of online publishing
C) Utilize skills in writing and designing for the Internet
D) Produce digital content appropriate to the social media platform
E) Curate and comment knowledgeably on digital content of others by reposting
Method of Instruction: Lecture, demonstration, and hands on, in class assignments
Method of Evaluation: Engagement in class discussion and critique; completion of all assignments on time; collaborations with classmates to comment and repost on social media; creation of a personal project for final critique.
Prerequisite: ART 2200 - ELECTRONIC ART STUDIO (recommended but not required).
