ELL Specialists - Mrs. Troyer & Mrs. Walker

Meet Mrs. Troyer

My name is Carmela Troyer. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 2000. I earned my Masters degree in Educational Leadership, with a Type 75 certification in 2006. The majority of my teaching experience was as a classroom teacher for 17 years in a different school district. I have a great deal of experience working with English language learners. This is my second year as an ELL Specialist at Jefferson School.

Meet Mrs. Walker

My name is Melinda Walker. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Education from Western Governor's University in 2012. I earned my ENL/ELL Certification in 2015. My teaching background has been a wide variety of opportunities in teaching preschool, middle school Math interventionist, and a 3rd/ 4th grade classroom teacher. This is my first year with Elmhurst 205 and I have enjoyed working at Jefferson Elementary as well as Hawthorne.

What is ELL?

ELL stands for English Language Learners. Our job is to service students who have English as a second language. We do this in a few different ways. Most of the time, we push into the general education classroom to support students. We often provide extra assistance by co-teaching lessons with the classroom teacher, providing accommodations for students when necessary, and giving students additional opportunities to practice their language skills in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. EL teachers also see students during Acceleration groups, where we provide reading instruction to both EL and non -EL students.

Jefferson ELL - Seesaw

This year we are using Seesaw to share and communicate with families! Your child will post to Seesaw to share their learning. I'll also use Seesaw to send you messages and reminders. Seesaw is private; you'll only see posts created by your child.
