Hawthorne Instructional Coaching

What does an instructional coach do?

A coach is someone who impacts instruction and student learning by:

  • Helping teachers identify their strengths
  • Helping teachers “grow” their strengths
  • Helping teachers develop new strengths

"A coach provides job-embedded and sustained professional development within the classroom to build teacher capacity in order to increase achievement for ALL students!"

Why coaching?

“Coaching provides intensive, differentiated support to teachers so that they are able to implement proven practices.” (Knight, 2008)

“Someone whose chief professional responsibility is to bring evidence-based practices into classrooms by working with teachers and other school leaders.” (PA Institute for Instructional Coaching)

“Coaches are teacher leaders who facilitate and guide content-focused professional learning for a school’s teachers. Effective coaching incorporates interrelated approaches that promote coherence, focus, and alignment.” (Annenberg Institute for School Reform)
