During their visit to India, HAZMAT members organized a two-week summer workshop in July to introduce students to robotics and STEAM. Many students had never experienced FIRST Robotics before, providing a unique chance to spark their interest in STEM fields. The we donated LEGO Education SPIKE Prime kits for the students to use, so they got to design, build, and program their robots to tackle different challenges. This hands-on experience not only taught basic robotics skills but also emphasized teamwork, problem-solving, and creative thinking. Beyond technical skills, the workshop stressed the core values of FIRST, motivating students to consider STEM careers and their community impact. By the program's end, students gained practical robotics knowledge and understood the collaborative nature of innovation, laying the groundwork for future STEM involvement.Â
After the summer camp's success, students showed strong enthusiasm for continuing their robotics education. This led to a 14-week online STEAM workshop for long-term skill building. The program featured structured lessons in robotics and programming, with one-hour weekly sessions. Each session built on the previous one, ensuring a solid foundation while introducing more complex topics gradually. Homework assignments helped reinforce learning and promote independent study. The workshop aimed to prepare students to form and lead their own FIRST teams, equipping them with the confidence and skills needed for competitions. Throughout both programs, we learned vital lessons, such as tailoring teaching methods to student needs, the importance of hands-on learning, and encouraging collaboration. This experience reinforced our belief in mentorship and structured learning as catalysts for lasting educational influence, keeping students engaged and empowered to pursue future STEM opportunities.
