Analyzing and Interpreting Data

Introduction

Analyzing data includes tabulating, graphing, or statistical analysis, which can reveal the meaning of data and its relevance. Analyzing data is examining the information gathered in the lab and looking for and patterns or relationships. This is important to many scientists because it allows them to make decisions and come to a conclusion based on the evidence. There are two types of data, quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative data focus on numbers and calculations for example, weight and slope. Whereas, qualitative data focuses on words and non number observations, such as color and texture. There are many tools that can be used when analyzing data like tables, graphs, and mathematics.

Angled Projectile Graph Analysis

In our Angled Projectile lab we used video physics and graphical to create graphs of motion of a tennis ball. Later in the lab we then analyzed our graph and its slope meaning which was the balls acceleration. By analyzing our graph we were able to understand what our graphs meant and what they revealed to us.

Also, in the angled projectile lab we marked up and annotated our graphs. We had to interpret them enough to understand what each part of the graph meant and was showing us. With this we had a better understanding of the motion of our ball.
