Be the best you
Be the best you
Teacher instructions: Read the class the two poems below. In small groups, ask students to discuss what they liked about each poem. Which poem had the stronger message? Allow students time to brainstorm ideas about what being the best version of themselves looks like, sounds like, feels like.
Students should then attempt to write their own poem about being the best they can be. Give students the freedom to write any poem style they choose. Some examples include limerick, haiku, acrostic, rhyming or free verse. Students decide who they share their poem with.
Purpose of activity: For students to consider what being their best self means to them and to create a piece of poetry in their chosen style about being the best they can be.
