James Robinson, II is an accomplished music educator and conductor. From 2021 to 2023, he served as the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands and Instrumental Music at Limestone University, where he led the non-major percussion studio, guest conducted the wind ensemble, directed the steel pan bands, and led the Marching Saints.
As a young educator, James taught general music to grades 2 to 5 in Gaston County, North Carolina, earning the "New Teacher of the Year" award for 2019-2020 at Belmont Central Elementary School. He was also Gaston County Schools' representative for the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching's New Teacher of the Year award. He received the Limestone University Early Career Educator Impact Award and the Department of Music Alumni Achievement Award.
James is a sought-after speaker, delivering professional development sessions across North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, and virtually for the California Department of Education and Practicing Musician. His topics include elementary music repertoire, music technology integration, addressing music teacher burnout, and the impact of art and band programs on student mental health.
James holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Limestone University and a Master's degree in Wind Conducting from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he studied under Dr. Jay Gilbert. He is a quarterfinalist for the 2025 Grammy Music Educator Award. James is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the North Carolina Association for Music Education, the South Carolina Association for Music Education, the Society for Music Teacher Education, the National Band Association, and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP).
