What is one practical habit that you can recommend cultivating that would embody the worldview encouraged in your talk, and increase the quality of life?
Don't let ideas die.
Don't let them die due to hesitation, perfectionism, or untethered ambition. Be ambitious, but tether it - make it real - actionable. Here's a simple format to iterate & baby step your revolution into fruition [or, as Tyler Cowen would call it - a Marginal Revolution].
You're starting at A, aiming at Z - break it down into the smallest, testable iterations possible.
It's just a basic Scientific Method approach to entrepreneurship / disruption -- test as few variables as you can at a time - so when you're standing at Z, you're on a rock solid foundation, having learned each and every variable along the path, ready to roll with the punches in an exponentially volatile global marketplace & ready to build up into new axes [like, axes on a matrix, not chop-chop axes].
Justifying the investment [of your or anyone else's time, energy, or capital].
Make a pitch deck for yourself about the idea -- fill in the following blanks and pitch yourself as to whether it's worth it.
If it is, then take it to potential cofounders - if they buy in, post the concept on social channels and see if it gets any traction -- ideally, add a TypeForm for people to join a waitlist for when your concept is ready to launch.
If the waitlist gets traction, start building, if you need venture capital to build - show the traction you've established to investors - and so on. Don't think in schedules - think in triggers. If X [buy in] happens, then it's worth investing my time into working on Y [building].
PITCH DECK [justify this to yourself, then the world]
1. Project name & tagline w / logo
2. Mission [Why does this project exist?]
3. Problem statement [ [BLANK] is broken / a dormant, impactful opportunity, and worth investment to fix] ]
4. Problem proof [data, trends, anecdotes, 1st hand market research, etc.]
5. Solution statement [ [ PROJECT ] provides [ service ] to [ target users ] for [ purpose ] which allows them to [ benefit ] by leveraging [ product / technology / system ] ]
6. Solution mechanics [players, value props, story-boarded experience, defensible tech, etc.]
7. Market opportunity [trends, TAM, market research, etc.]
8. Threats [regulatory, competition, technological obsolescence, etc.]
9. Team [How is this team uniquely able to actually execute on this solution? key members, experience, resources, networks, leverage points, etc.]
10. Traction [What's been accomplished to date wrt public traction - of project or the XP of the team : revenue, users, retention, growth, spend, team strength, partners, etc.]
11. Go to market plan [marketing, product release schedule, POS, etc.]
12. Financials [How much is being raised? How does cash fuel this fire? Where is spend planned on being allocated each quarter for 1-3 years, what is the entity structure, etc.]
13. Derisking the investment [Projections on traction + Plan in place unlocks spend at met KPIs for x expectation of ROI to investors, collaborators, partners, stakeholders et al]
14. Next steps : contact, what to do next [ie NDA & Product Demo, Letter of Intent, Purchase Order, Term Sheet, etc.]
Stop LARPing disruption, and make it real.
