How Was Your Day?

Red, blue, and green. This was the answer when my daughter asked my kindergarten grandson what kind of day he had at school. He went on to explain, “I had a red day because my throat was sore today. I had a blue day because I missed my brother (he was home with the flu). And I had a green day because I was ready to learn!”

Out of the mouths of babes! What an intuitive perspective! Did you ever have a day a school that changes as you move through the hours? I’ve witnessed both students and adults start the day on a happy note, and then allow one thing to sour the entire rest of it. I’ve also seen the opposite. Maybe it’s been one of those mornings, and once I get to school and see the smiles of the students, all is better with the world.

How do your students begin their day? How do you as a teacher or a parent begin your day? You have choices. You can start with a glum perspective such as I’ve GOT to go to work or school. You can also start with a happy perspective such as I GET to go to work or school! It’s up to you and how you respond.

Luke’s perspective was all encompassing. He didn’t let the sore throat or missing his brother take over his attitude for the whole day because he was there ready to learn. I challenge you to not let things take over your entire day. You may miss the good stuff. You may miss an opportunity to learn, or you may miss an opportunity to help someone. So……it’s up to you…..how was your day?
